EDMOND — Aaron Owen, owner of AC Owen Construction LLC, recently celebrated his company’s first year anniversary in the commercial construction business.

Owen grew up in Edmond and graduated from Edmond Memorial High School before completing a construction management degree at Oklahoma State University.

“I joined the Air Force after graduating from Memorial so I could go to college on the GI bill,” Owen said. “I was stationed in San Antonio and Wichita Falls and did my internship in Dallas.”

He and his wife, Megan, live in Edmond with their three children, two girls, 3 and 5 years old, and a 7-year-old son.

“Even though I had experienced other places, I was born in Edmond and grew up here and I wanted to be here in Edmond to raise my family,” Aaron said. “We like the schools and the people as well as the ease of getting around.”

He and two of his friends tag team as coaches and help each other work with the baseball, football and basketball teams their sons play on.

“My mom grew up in Edmond and also graduated from Memorial, and my dad, Charles Owen, retired after 25 years as a fireman and went into home-building,” Aaron said. “He owned Owen Electric, and I was raised doing a lot of construction work for my dad.”

Upon graduation from OSU, Aaron worked for a construction company in Oklahoma City until 2007 when he and two other men partnered together and started a construction company.

“In 2011 I decided to start out on my own with just two employees, my wife, who filled in taking phone calls, and myself.”

In one year the company has grown to eight employees and far exceeded Aaron’s expectations for growth both in employees and revenue.

“God has put the right people in the right place at the right time,” Aaron said.

One of those people is his father who, in a role reversal, came to work for Aaron last August as a project superintendent.

Catering to commercial builders, AC Owen Construction specializes in all types of construction including professional offices, government facilities, schools, churches, restaurants and more.

“I like working with people in commercial construction,” Aaron said. “They are a much more professional group of people than you might find in other areas of construction. I get satisfaction from working with the people in this business.”

Aaron said he spends a lot of time in the office, and for someone in construction management the weather has been awesome for the past year, but when he is not working he likes to spend time with his children doing things outdoors.

“We like to golf, swim, fish and do anything that is sports related,” Aaron said.

Aaron said he believes in giving back to the community and he and his company are involved in philanthropic organizations like Boys and Girls Clubs.

Following one of the most significant trends in design and construction today, owner Aaron Owen can take a project from the beginning to the end with his Design-Build services where the design and construction are both contracted and managed by his company.

“This one point of contact approach to producing your commercial project will allow the project to be more streamlined and efficient,” Aaron said. “Design and construction professionals work hand-in-hand developing the design while projecting costs through the conceptual, design development and construction phases. It provides a single source of responsibility.”

Aaron said one of the advantages of Design-Build is a single source of accountability, cost savings and faster delivery.

Other services offered by his company include: pre-construction design analysis, lump sum bidding, estimating/budgeting services, cost-plus negotiated fee, general contracting and construction manager services.

Aaron personally oversees every project while he provides the expertise and resources of a large commercial general contractor while maintaining the personalized service and attention of a smaller one.

“We are client focused, quality driven and integrity based,” Aaron said. “I believe the key to success is providing all of the above. It is not just about what we do, it is about how we do it.”

AC Owen Construction provides commercial general construction services in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.

Aaron is a member of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), AGC of Oklahoma where he served on the board of directors, and Oklahoma Construction Leadership Council.
