Annual summer sale to begin Thursday
EDMOND — It’s time for shoppers to go “krazy” once again as Edmond merchants offer great bargains during the annual Krazy Daze event Thursday through Saturday.
This year’s theme for the Downtown Edmond Business Association is “Buffalos to Broadway” and downtown shopkeepers will be dressed in appropriate western attire, but individual stores and shopping centers across town will take part in the three-day sale as well.
Krazy Daze has been an annual tradition in Edmond since the early 1960s when Hoot Gibson, owner of McCall’s at 21 S. Broadway, came up with the sidewalk sale idea to help clear out inventory from downtown retailers’ stores.
“This year we’re especially putting our efforts into having fun,” said Karen Morton, DEBA president.
“We just invite everybody to come down and have a good time with us.”
Carol Horton, sales clerk at Anne’s Resale Finery, 1601 S. Broadway, said her store will offer a different sale each day.
“On Thursday, everything in the back room will be a dollar (per item),” she said. “On Friday, shoppers may buy with no sales tax, and on Saturday, everything in the back room will be sold two (items) for a dollar.”
Stein Mart, 308 S. Bryant, will take part in the celebration as well, said Justin Connelly, assistant store manager. Employees will dress for the western theme and the store’s red dot clearance sale will continue through the weekend.
Al’s Sports Cards, 116 E. 15th St., is a traditional hot spot during Krazy Daze celebrations, with marked-down items, give-aways, raffles, a live auction and silent auction items.
Raffles and auctions on Saturday will include a baseball signed by Mickey Mantle, a 1974 Hank Aaron bobblehead, a football signed by Adrian Peterson and many other items, said owner Alan Marchese.
Morton said she’s looking forward to the 2007 Krazy Daze celebration as an entertaining and successful event.
“We just invite everyone to come down and have a good time with us. Come early and stay late,” she said.
Sale hours in downtown Edmond are from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
