CarMax donates to local youth program
EDMOND — One of the YMCA’s youth programs received a boost this week when CarMax officials presented a check to the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma for $2,500.
The money will be used by the Middle School After School Program at Central Middle School.
“The CarMax Foundation’s Regional Giving Program provides $100,000 to be given away annually in each of its seven regions,” said Steve Coulter, CarMax location general manager for the store at Memorial Road and Broadway Extension. “We are happy to be able to make a donation to help with youth programs and development at the Y.”
Donna Wassel, president of the CarMax Foundation, agreed.
“We are proud to support the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma,” she said. “Non-traditional educational opportunities that help students are programs that we are proud to fund.”
Mike Roark, YMCA executive director, said his organization appreciates the donation.
“This will help offset costs for this program, which is a pilot program in relationship with Edmond Public Schools,” he said. “This donation from CarMax allows us to offset costs and be able to do more. A lot of times this age group kind of gets left out.”
The after-school activities currently have an enrollment of 12-16 youngsters per day, Roark said.
Children enrolled in the program take part in homework activities, character development lessons, life skills training and other projects.

Sell your home in half the time
Freeze frame on our nation’s economy. If no new houses were built, there are enough unsold houses to satisfy the needs of the majority of buyers for about nine months. In other words, if no new homes were built it still would take nine months to sell all the houses that are available for sale today.
