EDMOND — Edmond residents elected to Red Earth board of directors

Two Edmond residents are elected to the Red Earth, board of directors for fiscal year 2010. Dee Jerome will serve as immediate past president and Beth Barnes Hall has been elected to a three-year term. The new officers will oversee the operations of the Red Earth Museum and the additional programs of the organization, including the 24th Annual Red Earth Native American Cultural Festival scheduled for June 18-20 in downtown Oklahoma City.

Jerome is retired as manager of compensation and benefits for Devon Energy and has been an active member of the Red Earth board of directors since 2002. He is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

Community volunteer Hall is active at First Christian Church in Oklahoma City and at Summit Middle School in Edmond. She is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma.

For nearly 30 years, the 501(c) 3 nonprofit Red Earth has been dedicated to its mission to promote the rich traditions of American Indian arts and cultures through education, a premier festival, museum and fine art markets.



Chamber taking nominations for Woman of the Year

The Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce is taking nominations for the 2009 Coppermark Bank Woman of the Year. The Woman of the Year award will be given out in 2010 at the Chamber’s Annual Awards Banquet. Nominations are due by Nov. 6. This is the second year for the Chamber’s Woman of the Year award. Brenda Lyons of Edmond Public Schools won the inaugural award in February.

The objective of the award is to honor business women who: have made achievements in the professional field; exhibit leadership in their profession; act as a mentor/role model to other women; dedicate significant time and effort to philanthropic activities; and exhibit leadership in the Edmond/Oklahoma City community.

The women must be a member of the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce to be eligible for the award.
