AT&T monopole finds home at soccer fields

EDMOND — The Edmond Planning Commission gave unanimous approval recently for a 150-foot tall monopole cell tower proposed to be west of Kelly, south of Danforth. To the south of the property is the Swan Lake addition and the Meadow Lakes addition is to the east of the property.

This AT&T tower would be located on future City of Edmond soccer fields and designated as general commercial property, said Bob Schiermeyer, city planner. A water tower with antennas is currently at the location.

“I think this is a good location for this because it’s two and a half times the height of tower away from the nearest residential,” he said.

One-hundred-thirty feet is the standard height for a cell tower on general commercial property, he said. A specific use permit is needed for the 150-foot tower, Schiermeyer said. The City of Edmond would collect rent from the project.

“That’s all I needed to know,” said LeRoy Cartwright, planning commissioner.
