Edmond inventor seeks votes for international competition

EDMOND — A local inventor is asking Edmond residents to vote for his soccer training product in an international new product competition. Monday will be the last day to vote.

Ben Mazloompour, a civil engineer with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, invented SoccerWave, a soccer training tool that allows players ages 7 and up to practice the sport without the help of other players. Mazloompour said he invented SoccerWave after he ruptured two discs in his back and could no longer practice with his son.

He invented the first product in 2006 and redesigned the product as SoccerWave XP in October 2008. The varying curvature of the design returns the ball on an unpredictable path, forcing the player to respond to a variety of returns.

The 22-pound, high-density polyethylene SoccerWave XP is manufactured in Michigan and warehoused in Oklahoma City. SoccerWave LLC sells the product in the United States and overseas.

Mazloompour said he has used players from both the Edmond Soccer Club and the North OKC Soccer Club in two commercials.

The International Trade Fair for Sporting Goods and Sport Fashion is the Munich-based organization sponsoring the competition. To learn more about the product and vote, go to www.ispo-brandnew.com and click on the “hottest brands” box. Scroll through the products on the left to find SoccerWave XP, ranked 4.8 on Friday.

By clicking on SoccerWave XP, viewers can see a YouTube video of the product in use, click on “rate it” to vote up to 10 points, and make comments or tell a friend about the product.

If SoccerWave XP wins the competition, Mazloompour said, it will get a lot of television, Internet, magazine and newspaper exposure in Europe. The award ceremony will be in Germany.

“The funny thing is, people in Denmark, Norway, UK, Australia, Canada, everybody knows about our product except people in Oklahoma City,” Mazloompour said.
