EDMOND — Petra Industries, the nation’s leading wholesale distributor of consumer electronics, custom installation products, wireless accessories, mobile audio/video accessories and appliance connection supplies, had its 14th Annual Charity Golf Tournament and raised $70,000 to support Mercy Ministries of America and Whiz Kids.

“Each year we hold this event, we’re overwhelmed and overjoyed by the turnout of our vendors and business partners who come from around the nation to support these two charities,” said Bill Stewart, president/CEO of Petra Industries. “Together with our supporters we’re able to impact the lives of those served by Mercy Ministries of America and Whiz Kids, and that means a great deal to the Petra family.”

This year, more than 150 of Petra’s vendors, partners and employees participated in the festivities, which kicked off with a cocktail reception and Texas Hold ‘Em tournament at Fox & Hound Pub and Grille on the evening of Oct. 24. Following the kickoff event, all participants teed it up with a shotgun-start golf scramble at Oak Tree Golf Country Club in Edmond the morning of Oct. 25.

The golf tournament wrapped up with a luncheon for all attendees and prizes were awarded to tournament winners for the best team score, longest drive, longest putt and closest to pin. Later a prize raffle drawing was held, and the event concluded with Stewart presenting checks for $35,000 each to Heather Robinson, executive director of development for Mercy Ministries of America, and Bea Jai Webb, program director for Whiz Kids.

“Mercy Ministries of America is transforming the lives of hurting girls around the nation, and we couldn’t do it without the support of partners like Petra,” Robinson said. “As a privately funded ministry that offers our program free-of-charge, we depend solely on donations and our longstanding partnership with Petra helps us restore hope for so many.”

Webb, of Whiz Kids, said, “Partnership with organizations like Petra is what allows us to reach the number of at risk boys and girls we currently serve, and the need to reach more continues to increase. Without such support, we are not able to fulfill our mission of improving the well-being of inner-city youth through academic tutoring, positive mentoring and communicating spiritual and moral values.”

Petra would like to thank its many generous event sponsors including Abbot Rubber Company, APC, Bank of Oklahoma, Belkin, BIC America, Bonnie Hamje Company, Brown Printing, CE Labs, Cerama Bryte, Cobra, Coby, Consumer Technology Publishing Group, deflect-o, Dewalt, FedEx, Garmin, Jawbone, Koss, Lambro, Lenmar, Level Mount, Linear, Market Solutions, Midland, Monster, OmniMount, Parrot, Peerless Mounts, Pinnacle, Pioneer, Proficient, Scosche, Sima, Sirius XM, Speck, Swann, Thrustmaster, Universal Remote, vTech and Whistler.
