Cox offers new home network security check
Cox Communications this week announced an easy-to-use Home Network Security Check, available to all of its residential high speed Internet customers at no additional charge. The Security Check Web applet quickly assesses the security of the customer’s wireless home network and makes appropriate recommendations.
“Just as you lock the doors to your home, wireless Internet users need to lock their home networks,” said Bruce Berkinshaw, director of product management. “Home Network Security Check from Cox is a free and easy way to ensure your home network is secure. It takes just a few minutes and helps avoid the headaches associated with unauthorized users accessing your home network.”
Without a secure network, unauthorized users can: Infect your computer with viruses and spam; steal your Internet service, slowing your Internet connection; perform illegal activities through your personal network and make you appear responsible.
It only takes a few minutes to conduct a security audit with Cox’s new Security Check. Because it is a Web applet, there is no software to download. The results of the Security Check are displayed along with an image of a wireless device with green, yellow or red lights indicating good security, weak security or a network with no security enabled.
Customers can take advantage of the new Home Network Security Check by logging onto Internet tools at www.cox.com/myconnection.
