EDMOND — and the Non-Commissioned Officers Association will have a free veterans career expo for transitioning servicemembers featuring corporations and businesses looking to hire military members and veterans.

The expo will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 2 at The Reed Conference Center, 5750 Will Rodgers Road, Midwest City and is open to military members, veterans and their families.

While veterans’ employment is being spotlighted nationally, many organizations are not addressing the key issues of skills translation and the “no man’s land” of transition with both companies and servicemembers. Many veterans are unprepared to articulate to a potential employer why their skill set in the military is valuable to an organization. Conversely, many companies are not familiar with the skills sets that accompany someone leaving the military.

According to the Monster Veterans Talent Index, a snapshot of the current veteran hiring landscape, more than one million veterans will enter civilian life in the next five years. Additionally, the Veterans Talent Index indicates that 75 percent of veterans are confident about the skills they bring to civilian workforce whereas only 39 percent of employers believe vets are appropriately prepared to compete for civilian jobs out of the military. is the leading source for defense news and military benefits information.
