Arvest Bank’s hunger initiative surpasses 1 million meals

Special to The Sun

EDMOND — One month ago, Arvest Bank announced the beginning of its third annual 1 Million Meals initiative, which challenges bank associates, customers and communities to fight hunger in more than 120 communities the bank serves. Thursday, the bank announced the campaign has reached 1.19 million meals.

Arvest branches throughout Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and Kansas have been participating in this initiative by collecting nonperishable food items and monetary donations. These efforts will continue through Nov. 2, with the donations given to the local communities that Arvest serves, just in time for the holidays.

Every dollar raised through 1 Million Meals provides the equivalent of five meals for local, hungry families.

In the Oklahoma City Metro area, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma was chosen to receive donations from the 1 Million Meals campaign.

Oklahoma City residents can help support the 1 Million Meals initiative by dropping off nonperishable food items or making monetary donations at any local Arvest branch by calling 866-952-9523. In addition, every Arvest branch is selling 1 Million Meals paper plates for $1 throughout the campaign.
