EDMOND — The Edmond Planning Commission approved the site plan 5-0 recently for an Aldi grocery store, with a location proposed west of the RCB Bank, north of Edmond Road and west of Kelly Avenue.

ALDI Inc. is a national discount grocery chain in the United States, Europe and Australia, according to the city. The headquarters for ALDI are in Batavia, Ill.

The 24-foot-tall building is 16,398 square feet in size on a lot size of 1.64 acres, according to data prepared by City Planner Bob Schiermeyer. He described the architecture as a combination of stone wainscot and modular brick.

“The owners wish to install a 20-foot-tall sign, 75 square feet with brick veneer pole covers,” Schiermeyer stated. “The bank has an ATM clock tower and sign on one structure.”

Drainage plans have been approved by the engineering department.
