EDMOND — John Ross Elementary third-graders performed in a musical for families and friends Thursday night at the elementary school gym. Music teachers Scott Goodrich and Laura Ward led the six classes of third-graders in the production of "Gotta Be Jazz." The musical explored the roots and humble beginnings of this famed musical genre.
Students auditioned for a variety of speaking parts, solo and ensemble singing parts and a dance number. Songs performed either by the entire third-grade or various ensembles included: "It's Gotta Be Jazz!", "Basin Street Blues," "Route 66," "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)," "I've got Rhythm," and a finale of "It's Gotta Be Jazz!" The eight dancers performed to a jazzed-up version of "My Favorite Things" from the "Sound of Music."
