Waggoners win Yard of the Week honor

Special to The Sun

EDMOND — The Waggoner family, at 1805 Lancaster Circle in the Homestead addition, start this year’s parade of “Yard of the Week” with their colorful, well-balanced garden. This house was Donnie and Robyn Waggoner’s dream home for themselves and their three young children Blake, Kenzie and Chloe when they tried to purchase it five years ago, but missed out by hours. However, a year ago their wishes were fulfilled when they approached the owners and became the new residents of it.

In that short year the yard has a delightful settled look with tall trees to shade island beds that show tall Asiatic lilies, and a beautiful Spruce to add contrast to the brick work. Hardscape of rocks, bird baths and large flower pots overflowing with Calibrachoa, delicate Bridal Veil Coleus, Asparagus fern and bright Petunias add interest to the garden. The Waggoners have a solid foundation of perennials with Azaleas, Hydrangeas, Yarrow, ornamental grasses and ferns. Summer color will be continued with a multitude of Petunias, Marigolds, Geraniums, Coreopsis and Lanium. Fragrance is added with the grouping of dwarf Gardenias. Fall color will come with Chrysanthemums and the climbing Ivy decorating one wall.

Robyn and Donnie will be rewarded for their work to make Edmond more beautiful with a gift certificate from Home Depot, on Broadway, a gift certificate to TLC Garden Centers and a six-month subscription to The Edmond Sun. The “Edmond Yard of the Week” is sponsored by “Keep Edmond Beautiful”, the Edmond Chamber of Commerce, The Edmond Sun, TLC Garden Centers and Home Depot. To nominate a yard, call 341-2808.
