Memorial ACT Club creates fundraising 5K event

The Edmond Sun

EDMOND — Remember the story of how your grandparents used to walk 10 miles to school, uphill, barefoot in the snow? This is reality for the children at Maisha High School in Kenya (minus the snow, of course).

A group of students from the Edmond Memorial High School ACT Club decided to do something about this. They invite residents to “Run for Life: We run so they don’t have to.” Proceeds will provide bicycles for 100 Maisha high school students in Kenya who average a walk of four hours round-trip to school each day.

The 5K and 1-mile family run is set for May 4. Check-in will be at 7:30 a.m.; family run will begin at 8:30 a.m.; and the 5K race will be at 9 a.m. at Mitch Park. Registration will be at Pavilion No. 3. Pre-registration cost is $25, open through April 26; $35 registration available day of the race; children 12 and younger may enter for a  $15 fee.

Make checks payable to EMHS ACT Club (memo: RUN FOR LIFE) and mail to Edmond Memorial High School (EMHS), 1000 E. 15th St., Edmond, OK, 73013, or bring checks/cash payments to the finance office at EMHS. Checks and cash must be postmarked by April 26.
