OKLA. CITY —
Ashton Smith served as House pages for state Rep. Marian Cooksey from March 4-7.
Ashton, 17, arrived at the Oklahoma State Capitol on Monday morning for an orientation session, before beginning page duties for the day. On Tuesday evening, pages participated in the House Page Mock Legislature program.
Ashton served as governor during the mock session and was selected by her peers as “Outstanding Page of the Week.”
Pages debated two mock bills during the mock session. The first required students to submit to drug testing for participation in secondary school athletics and extracurricular activities and created a drug counseling program. The second dealt with school security, allowing certain individuals to carry a handgun on school property.
“Ashton is a great example of the bright young people we have in Edmond,” said Cooksey, R-Edmond.
