EDMOND —
Channing Unitarian Universalist Church to host guest speaker Batchelder
Channing Unitarian Universalist Church of Edmond will host Nathaniel Batchelder, director of Peace House, at its Aug. 22 service. In keeping with the service message for August of Commitment, Batchelder’s sermon is titled “Commitment: Dedication to our vision of peace, justice, harmony, sufficiency and sustainability.” The program will begin at 11 a.m. at Channing Church, 2800 West 15th St. in Edmond, and everyone is welcome to attend.
As director of Oklahoma City’s Peace House since 1990, Nathaniel Batchelder balances his devotion to nudging the world lovingly toward the possibility of peace with his resolve to “look realistically at evil” while doing so.
The Peace House is an education and advocacy center for a wide variety of justice and peace issues, including human rights, economic justice, environmental sustainability, nonviolence and peace. The Oklahoma Peace Strategy newspaper has been in publication since 1986.
Batchelder’s work for human rights, including founding and chairing for 10 years the Central Oklahoma Human Rights Alliance (COHRA), earned for him the Oklahoma Human Rights Commission’s annual human rights award in December 2007.
The mission of Channing UU Church is to provide a safe, affirming and encouraging place for the progressive religious community to explore spirituality through education, religious service and involvement in issues of community concern, social justice and civil liberties. They invite everyone to join them on Aug. 22 to share in this inspirational service.
