The Pita Pit is a top spot

EDMOND — Tucked away in one of my favorite areas of Edmond is a sandwich shop like no other. The Pita Pit opened at the end of March and with its unique menu and toppings it’s soon to be a favorite of yours.

Owners Ben Stacy and Mo Mirambeigui are both graduates of Edmond North and have gone on to receive degrees — Mo from the University of Central Oklahoma with a degree in marketing and Ben with a degree in entrepreneurship from Oklahoma State University.

As you enter The Pita Pit, you find an atmosphere that is fun and a staff that is nothing but helpful. As I ordered I was told the Mediterranean Chicken was amazing, and I need to go Greek style with hummus, feta cheese and Taziki Sauce. My sandwich was hot and fresh, and for the rest of the day all I could think about was that sandwich.

My guest at lunch was Amy Herrold, the dietician for Edmond Public Schools. We needed to go over a few items and felt The Pita Pit would be the perfect place. Amy’s pita was filled with fresh veggies and grilled chicken and with our baked chips and diet drinks neither one of us felt sluggish after lunch.

The pitas are made exclusively for the restaurant and are offered in whole wheat and white. They are light and airy and almost 10 inches in diameter. When filled they are almost too much for one person to eat.

The menu has plenty to offer, from meat pitas with grilled chicken, ham, turkey and roast beef to vegetarian options with lots of fresh-cut veggies and sauces to complement. In addition the restaurant offers breakfast pitas all day.

The owners are not only young but know that every dollar needs to stretch, especially for students, so when students show their IDs they can receive any pita for just $5. In addition, to show their appreciation, teachers receive $1 off their pita.

As unique as their sandwiches are, the hours are great for those night owls. On Friday and Saturday they are open until 3 a.m. and they will even deliver. The Pita Pit opens at 10 a.m.

    If you notice your pet’s breath is offensive, it might signify a serious health concern, said Dr. Carolynn MacAllister, Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension veterinarian.
    “Responsible pet owners take care of their pets by feeding them, exercising them and taking them to the veterinarian for an annual checkup. Unfortunately, some pet owners overlook the care of their pet’s teeth,” MacAllister said. “Proper dental care is just as important for pets as it is for humans.”

  • Behavior modification for the bored dog

    Q: We have a 2-year-old miniature Australian Shepherd named Sally that is home alone for eight to nine hours every day. She finds something to get on or chew up almost every day. She gets on the window seat and chews on the blind cords or cushions, or on the coffee table and chews on or breaks whatever she can get to. I do worry about her getting bored during the day, but we both work. What would you recommend we do to help her pass the time without getting bored?
