EDMOND — Oklahoma Muslims plan prayer service for Islamic holiday today
Oklahoma Muslims will celebrate the Islamic holiday of Eid-ul-Adha with more than 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide. In Oklahoma City, a prayer service will begin at 8 a.m. today at Masjid An Nasr mosque, 3815 N. St. Clair Ave., which is one block east of North Portland and one block south of 39th and Northwest Expressway.
Eid-ul-Adha is how Muslims commemorate Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael at God’s command.
Every year, Eid-ul-Adha coincides with Hajj, a pilgrimage Muslims must make to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, which is a religious obligation. This year, the peak day for Hajj will be today, which is the ninth day of the Islamic month in which Hajj is performed, known in Arabic as Zul Hijjah.
Church offers spiritual evening of Advent
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, at Ninth and Boulevard in Edmond, invites local residents to attend the parish’s first Advent Mission at 7:45 p.m. Dec. 8 following the 6:30 p.m. Mass.
Church leaders are excited and honored to have a world-renowned liturgical scholar, the Rt. Rev. Abbot Marcel Rooney, current president of the Te Deum Institute of Sacred Liturgy in Tulsa, as the featured speaker.

Area church offers Christmas program
Metropolitan Baptist Church invites area residents to “Nativity in the Square,” presented by the Mariner Stage Players, at 6 p.m. Dec. 6. Annual Holiday Service of Remembrance offered at Crossings
Crossings Community Church offers its third annual Holiday Service of Remembrance at 3 p.m. Dec. 6 in the Chapel for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one.
This service provides an opportunity to acknowledge grief and receive support, which is often more difficult during the holiday season.
