EDMOND — EDITOR'S NOTE: This story was modified to reflect accurate titles of the two Home Run Sliders employees.
When the word “sliders” comes to mind, do you think of a small, boring hamburger patty and a few hydrated onions that barely fill the inside of a soft dinner roll?
Well in Edmond the slider has been reinvented! Imagine a three-ounce, all-fresh ground beef patty that fills a very soft Italian bun, topped with items such as mac and cheese, fried onions, blue cheese and lots of others. Let me introduce you to Home Run Sliders in Edmond.
After opening its doors in May of last year, Home Run Sliders has started to gather a very loyal following. The restaurant is owned by the Deep Fork Group. I met with greeter Dixie Newcome and General Manager Raquel Gies Friday afternoon and was treated to the best tasting sliders I’ve ever eaten.
“The sliders are made with fresh never frozen beef,” Dixie was quick to say.
To be honest, you can really taste the difference. It’s not just the sliders that caught my eye, but the ketchup bar with 20 different flavored ketchups to choose from, ranging from curry to the seasonal flavor Pumpkin Spice, which surprisingly was one of my favorites.
The sliders are not just offered in a beef patty, but chicken and prime rib sliders are also a grand slam on taste. For sides, onion petals, sweet potato fries, French fries and their delicious mac and cheese are perfect and are large enough to share.
Deep Fork Group has done their homework — the bun is soft enough to make you crave them on their own, but also hold the sauces without becoming too soggy and falling apart. The prime rib is perfectly thinly sliced and is better than the typical steak and cheese most are accustomed too.
The biggest mistake you will make is over ordering. Because the sliders are bigger and with the toppings and sides, two is usually more than enough. The cost of any slider of your choosing on the menu is $3.30 for one and the more you order the less they are. Four sliders are $10.75 and with a side and drinks you’re at about $7 per person.
As for specials, Monday through Friday from 3-6 p.m. all sliders are buy one get one free.
Home Run Sliders is at 128 E. Fifth St. in Edmond between Broadway and Boulevard, and they do cater. Call the restaurant at 513-5410.
