OSU Extension workshop focuses on spices, herbs
As Americans try harder to improve their diets by decreasing fat and sugar, the challenge to make dishes tasty as well as healthy becomes that much more important.
To help residents learn to enhance their food and their health by using flavorful spices and herbs when cooking, the Oklahoma County OSU Cooperative Extension Service will sponsor a “Healthy Cooking with Spices and Herbs” workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 15.
Not only will the cooking workshop offer basic information about available spices and herbs, but participants actually will prepare dishes during the class and taste everything they make. Healthy dishes prepared with spices and herbs also will be served during the special workshop luncheon.
Participants also will be shown how to plant their own small herb gardens in pots for easy access and each workshop guest will have the opportunity to plant a pot of herbs to take home and place in a sunny location.
“Healthy Cooking with Spices and Herbs” will be at the OSU Cooperative Extension Auditorium, 930 N. Portland, and lunch will be provided for the event. Cost for the program is $10. To register or for more information, call the OSU Cooperative Extension Service at 713-1125.
