Logan County OSU Extension offers Master Gardener Program

The Master Gardener Program is being offered by the Logan County OSU Cooperative Extension Service to provide horticultural training to home gardeners in Logan County.

Master Gardener is a title given to individuals that receive 40 hours of in-depth horticultural training from County Extension Educators and State Specialists, and in return, agree to give volunteer service helping their local county extension program and community.

In Logan County, Master Gardeners can volunteer to help with the 4-H youth program, school enrichment programs, county fair and flower and vegetable show activities; prepare educational exhibits, demonstrations and programs for civic clubs; and write news articles, etc.

Master Gardener training will be at the Logan County Extension Conference Room at 215 Fairgrounds Road in Guthrie. Current plans are to have training sessions from 1-5 p.m. on Wednesdays in October, November and December. The first session will be Oct. 21. Topics will include basic plant science, soils and fertilizers, vegetables, fruits and nuts, organic gardening, ornamentals, turf management, diseases, insects, pesticide safety, water quality and lawn, garden and landscape.

Enrollment forms for the class are available at the Logan County Extension Office and are due before Oct. 21. The Master Gardener training will proceed if there are 15 or more students enrolled in the class. For participants in the Master Gardener program there will be an $85 registration fee to help cover the cost of instructional materials, refreshments, etc. The program is open to the public.
