EDMOND —
Touchmark at Coffee Creek in Edmond will host a horticulturalist with the Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Service, and provide a tour and open house of the Prairieview Memory Care Residences and Growing Together Garden.
The event is scheduled 5:30-7 p.m. June 16. To attend, RSVP by calling Touchmark at 340-1975.
The Growing Together Garden is a landscaped exterior courtyard shared between two paired memory-care neighborhoods. There are four neighborhoods in Prairieview.
The garden is designed to include nontoxic plants, raised garden beds, seasonal colorful plantings, and herbs and vegetables used in a specialized cooking program for Touchmark residents.
Speakers will be Ray Ridlen, OSU agriculture-horticulture educator with the Oklahoma County Cooperative OSU Extension, and Cindy Townsend, associated with TLC Greenhouse.
Ridlen holds bachelor degrees in animal science and agriculture education from OSU. As an OSU Extension educator, he has expertise in urban agriculture, common pond problems and vegetable gardening.
Prairieview provides quality living for people with memory loss, and is among the wide range of homes and lifestyle options at Touchmark. The memory-care environment is designed for appropriate levels of stimulation and support in a homelike, secure area.
Specially trained staff work with the residents throughout the 24-hour day, providing guided choices. Licensed nurses determine service plans based on an in-depth initial assessment and on each resident’s needs.
The memory-care area features personalized daily programs, supervised weekly outings, excursions, life enrichment and wellness, 24-hour monitoring and an emergency call system.
Open floor plans of the residences are designed for staff oversight while providing a variety of intimate seating and activity areas.
Touchmark at Coffee Creek is located at 2801 Shortgrass Road, east of Kelly Avenue and north of Covell Road in northwest Edmond.
