Touch-A-Truck event exceeds expectations

The Edmond Sun

EDMOND To the Editor:

I would like to offer my sincere gratitude to the organizers, volunteers and participants of the Edmond “Touch-A-Truck” day on May 16 in the east parking lot at the University of Central Oklahoma. I was truly blessed to share this experience with my 5-year-old grandson. What an awesome time we had!

Every imaginable truck and emergency type vehicle was represented. There were several fire trucks, ambulances, construction cranes, military vehicles, 18-wheelers, race car haulers, tow trucks, dump trucks, ice cream trucks and farm tractors, just to name a few. There were police motorcycles, patrol cars, and even an emergency evacuation helicopter.

To be able to see each one up close, then to touch, sit in, and climb on them was exciting. We could even listen to and were allowed to operate the sirens, air horns, whistles, and warning signals. This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime, unforgettable learning experience for a wide-eyed 5-year-old and his not quite grown up yet granddad!

We both want to especially thank each and every one of the owners, operators, drivers, police officers, firemen, soldiers and volunteers that donated their time and equipment to this event. Each one was extremely knowledgeable, gracious, friendly and appeared never to tire of lifting children up into and onto their equipment. Also, their attention to safety did not go unnoticed by the parents. Thank you again for this memorable event!
