Too much money poisons the earth

To the Editor:

I think the Spanish word inmigración is more descriptive of what is happening in Oklahoma and the United States. The world is a ball with physical size limits. There are continually more people on this ball looking for “space” to raise families, hence an “in migration” of people to areas here with more livable space and the soil, climate, air and water to make them more habitable than “home,” — politics, religion and money notwithstanding. As the space between “us” gets smaller, shifts in population demography one way or another are going to continue, magnify and accelerate along with greater dependence on technology, government, corporations and, of course, money.

Population growth and economic growth are inextricably tied. The United States as a sovereign nation can control immigration strictly, but won’t, and in the long run it won’t matter in global economy. In the meantime immigration has been keeping our “national” economy simulated by creating need, i.e., every immigrant legal or illegal from any country you can name buys gasoline, groceries, housing, cars, clothes, etc., from “us,” who no longer manufacture much to sell to other nations. I know of no other nation that allows United States citizens in for long without passport for travel and visa for work. Go ahead and try it! Immigration has been more than a $700 billion yearly bailout for at least 15 years for our “national” economy. Talk about freedom, we’re still selling it!

Here’s what I see happening: Money. Too much reliance on money fosters competition and makes the weak strong and the strong weak. Money has enabled our world to become overpopulated. Love of money has allowed a sociopathic mentality to flourish globally, i.e., tell a lie even if the truth serves better and the ends justify the means even if the ends make no sense. Competition rules, greed is king, sociopathy queen and good stewardship a rarity.

Economics is No. 1 in priority this election. I see the day on the horizon when our environment will be the only issue! This will be after world population like the stock market, ultimately makes a correction. What to do? Stock up on the basics: food, water, guns and ammo, gold, vitamins, medicines and toilet paper. Oh, and above all, be absolutely sure to keep these items on hand for your neighbors as well, whether they are immigrants or not.

And cheer up! There’s a silver lining! If the economy gets too bad maybe the immigrants will go home! Many Native Americans might wish we would. It reminds me of the old newspaper cartoon from my parents’ and grandparents’ time — Pogo. When Pogo says, “I have seen the enemy and he is us!”
