To the Editor:
It is that time of year again. Time for Christmas hype and commercialism and children asking for everything under the sun. It’s also that time of year where, I hope, people think of others and dig a little deeper to spread some Christmas cheer.
Not too often do you hear of a child, let alone one that lives in a town full of mostly privileged kids, who gives up all of her 13th birthday gifts to charity. But, that is just what my daughter has done.
Katie’s 13th birthday fell on Thanksgiving day this year, and she decided to invite as many children as possible to her party that weekend so that she could receive as many gifts as possible for charity.
We had a very nice turn out and we received a bundle to donate.
Katie is a seventh-grader at Cheyenne Middle School. She plays soccer for ESC and violin for the school. We do not by any means have a lot ourselves since I am a single parent. She makes me proud every day and I hope that her small gesture helps inspire others to do the same.
