HOPE Center is not a dumping ground

EDMOND — To the Editor:

I am a volunteer at the HOPE Center and very proud of the organization. There is a growing problem and I was wondering if you could bring it to the attention of the community.

Edmond is blessed to have such a wonderful organization as the HOPE Center. It is a food pantry and a clothes closet for members of our community who need assistance. It is not the city dump!

There are two signs on the side of the building: “No Dumping” and “Please Do Not Leave Donations Outside.” When we drive up and see the parking lot overflowing with trash, it’s very disheartening. The weather, animals and other elements scatter the trash, which makes an unsightly mess. The volunteers and staff members have to take time out from our duties to pick up the things left outside, and everything is thrown away.

When you come to the HOPE Center to donate items, please do not leave them outside.

Thank you, Edmond, for clean, useable and “in-season” items. Your generosity helps make the HOPE Center a success.
