To the Editor:
I have been a physician for 42 years and can certainly attest that the health system is broken. I do not know if the current health care plan will fix it or not nor do I know how to fix it. There are three things I do know:
1) Don’t just complain about something but make specific suggestions for how to fix it;
2) Our Congress is dysfunctional. Just read the news or better yet read the first chapter of Bruce Catton’s book on the Civil War, “The Coming Fury.”
3) Watch out for unforeseen consequences. If a patient can refuse health care insurance cannot a physician legally refuse to see them in an emergency room?
