To the Editor:
When I first learned about the fundraising efforts of Edmond high schools, I was so impressed with the students’, parents’ and community’s generosity and commitment to helping others. But when I read about the cancellation of the Edmond high school After Prom event due to lack of funding and student/parent involvement, it really irked me.
Why won’t Edmondites invest in their own childrens’ needs and well being by digging deep in their pockets and making time on their calendars for them? No doubt our community has a lot of resources that should be shared with others, but it seems to me that Edmond needs to show our young people that we care about them by investing in their safety and well being first. Safe and fun community events like After Prom are extremely important for young people year-round, but especially during high-risk times like prom and graduation season.
I can only hope that Edmond parents will actually step up this year to make sure students are safe by ensuring their homes and private events are supervised and alcohol free. My sincerest thanks to the few committed parents who tried to make After Prom work year after year, but Edmond, it takes a village!

Politicians need to be more factual
Like many fellow citizens of Edmond, I have observed the strenuous campaign for District 41 state Senate seat between Paul Blair and Clark Jolley. During my 24 years in Edmond, I can’t recall the level of effort and money spent for a state Senate seat.
