To the Editor:
The families in the Edmond Public School District are fortunate to have Kathleen Duncan as their advocate on the Edmond Board of Education. Duncan has worked tirelessly for the welfare and benefit of the Edmond schools’ students. During her tenure on the board she has promoted the adoption and implementation of the school bullying prevention policy, adoption of a wellness policy, increased campus security, improved instructional technology programs, significant increases in Pre-AP and AP classes and expansion of Pre-Kindergarten programs.
What is most impressive, however, are her actions not as a school board member but as a caring, private citizen. As a fellow member of the Edmond Kiwanis Club, I have worked with Duncan on the development and installation of a playground for special needs children at John Ross Elementary School. I have seen her efforts in helping to develop our Bringing Up Grades (BUGS) program in the Edmond elementary schools. As a board member for Children’s Miracle Network I have observed Duncan’s dedication and commitment to the well-being of the gravely ill children of Oklahoma.
It is obvious from her actions that Duncan is not interested in her position on the Edmond School Board as a method for self-promotion but as an opportunity to serve the Edmond community and the state of Oklahoma. Re-electing her will allow her to continue to serve our community and to develop her future goals for the Edmond Public School District. If re-elected Duncan will continue to act as the “people’s voice,” promote smaller class sizes and to support continued academic opportunities and academic excellence. I urge all residents of District 2 to re-elect Kathleen Duncan.
