EDMOND Thursday OKC Town Hall features Bruce Feiler

Noted author Bruce Feiler will speak about “Abraham: A Journey to the Heart of Three Faiths” on Thursday at the OKC Town Hall lecture series. The program will begin at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, 222 N.W. 15th St.

Hailed as one of the leading writers of his generation, Feiler has visited more than 60 countries, immersing himself in different cultures and recording his experiences in six critically acclaimed books. A graduate of Yale, he has a master’s degree in international relations from Cambridge and has written articles for The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, Parade Magazine and The Washington Post. He wrote, produced and hosted the PBS mini-series, Walking the Bible.

In Abraham, Feiler retraces the footsteps of the common ancestors of Christians, Jews and Muslims. As Feiler says, “Abraham holds the key to understanding what separates these religions and, ultimately, what unites them.”

Individual tickets are $15. Advance ticket purchase is preferred as seating will be limited. For more information, call 848-4727 or visit www.okctownhall.com.

Children First program celebrates 10-year anniversary

The Children First program at the Logan County Health Department is celebrating its 10th anniversary from 2-4 p.m. Feb. 29. All current and past C-1 clients are invited to the party that will be in Fairgrounds Education Building.

Children First, or C-1, is a community-based support program throughout Oklahoma that offers home visitation services to families during pregnancy and until the child’s second birthday. In order to qualify for C-1, an applicant must meet program income requirements.

Once the mother has enrolled in the program, she can expect visits from a C-1 nurse. An individualized schedule is worked out between nurse and mother.

Along the way, the mother and child receive a wide array of support and resources, including child and maternal health assessments, health/safety/nutrition education, and parenting education. For more information about the Children First anniversary celebration, or for information about the program itself, call the Logan County Health Department at 282-3485.
