Being attentive in the classroom, especially while helping others, and the importance of orderliness and sincerity, were the three themes that won sixth-grade St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic School student Brittany Brignac a $50 cash prize for her essay on “A time when I showed good character.”
As part of her submission, Brignac also had to submit recommendations from her parents and her teacher, which included how the character was explained to the child, if they recommended the child for recognition and even remarks about both the child’s strengths and weaknesses.
The essay competition and prize was part of a new biannual “The Character Event,” sponsored by Michelle McCoy in cooperation with the Character First! Training Institute of the Greater Oklahoma City Metro area.
Two other local cash scholarship awards went to University of Central Oklahoma junior dance education major Brandi Gable and the grand prize went to UCO senior political science major Cyndi Munson. This year’s cash scholarship sponsors were James and Regina Dunn and family.
