Police arrest alleged auto burglar

EDMOND — Edmond Police arrested an auto burglar after he allegedly broke into an Edmond couple’s sport utility vehicle and stole their personal belongings.

When Edmond Police officer Joseph Stoy arrived at the couple’s home on Wednesday, the couple told him they were awakened by loud noises in the driveway. When they looked outside, according to the report, they saw four people using a concrete landscaping block to break out the driver’s side window on their SUV.

Describing the people as white males with one wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, the homeowner told Stoy the suspects used his garage door opener to open the garage door. The homeowner entered the garage with his handgun, startling the suspects, the report stated.

After searching the SUV, police found the landscaping block laying in the front seat and blood on a box in the back seat, which the homeowner said was not his blood, according to the report. Missing from the SUV were an iPod, a drinking flask, Lortab and men’s gloves, the report stated.

When police made a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle at 33rd and Boulevard, most of the stolen items were located, according to the report.

Police arrested Larry Bedford Russell, 18, of Oklahoma City, on a complaint of second-degree burglary to an auto.
