Knife-carrying forgery suspect resists arrest

EDMOND A 21-year-old Edmond man armed with a knife attempting to forge a prescription at a local grocery store was arrested after a struggle, police said.

On Tuesday, Edmond Police were dispatched to the Homeland at 1151 N. Bryant in reference to a forgery in progress, according to a police report.

Police were told that a male suspect was attempting to forge a drug prescription in the pharmacy area. An officer arrived and engaged the suspect at the front of the store near the exit.

Another officer arrived and assisted the first officer with the suspect, who was resisting arrest, the report states. The suspect continued to struggle with the officers and would not put his hands behind his back. The suspect continued to try and get up from his face-down-on-the-floor position, according to the police report.

At one point, a knife came out from somewhere on the suspect’s clothing, police said. The spring-loaded knife deployed its blade as it skipped across the pavement.

Police placed Jacob Andrew Crawford, 21, of Edmond, in a patrol car. Police then learned that earlier that same day, Crawford had allegedly dropped off a prescription for Lortab, the report states. A pharmacy employee noticed an irregularity on the form — dentists don’t usually prescribe Lortab in the quantity listed, 90 count, police said.

Crawford was arrested on complaints of assault and battery on a police officer, attempting to obtain a controlled dangerous substance by fraud and carrying a harmful weapon. He was booked into the Edmond city jail.

Not every incident leads to a charge under the law. If charges are filed, innocence or guilt is determined by a court of law.
