Police arrest student on drug complaint

EDMOND —
A 16-year-old Edmond Memorial student was arrested by Edmond Police last week on complaints of possession of a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a school and resisting or obstructing an officer.
Evidence seized included codeine and Demerol, according to the police report.
Officer Bruce Graham responded to a request by Assistant Principal Jason Hayes to search the student’s bag after receiving information that the student might be selling drugs on campus. The student resisted a request by Hayes to search the bag, according to the police report.
Graham reported that the student became agitated and argumentative with Hayes. “I requested (him) to stand up so that I could pat him down for weapons,” Graham reported. “(The student) refused and started to reach into his pocket. I grabbed (him) by his right arm while he was seated as he pulled a cell phone out of his pocket.”
The student refused to comply with Graham’s order to stop resisting as the officer placed the student’s right arm behind the student’s back, Graham stated in the police report.
“I advised (him) that he was under arrest at this time and that he must comply with my order to place his left hand against the wall while in (Hayes’) office, and called Edmond dispatch to send additional police officers to my location.”
Hayes then opened the student’s book bag and observed a white pill inside the bag, according to Graham’s report.
“(He) again attempted to pull away and at this point started to bang his head and kick at the wall in front of him,” Graham stated. The officer placed the student in handcuffs, according to the report, while three other police officers assisted with patting the student down.
A pill bottle containing Lortab was found in the student’s pocket as one officer patted him down, according to the report. Hydrocodone pills also were found.
The student was escorted by police out of the principal’s office.
