Municipal Judge Alan Synar and Associate Municipal Judge Elizabeth Kerr were given pay raises Monday night by the Edmond City Council.
“With Judge Synar we’re going for a 25 percent increase and we’re doing a 5 percent increase on Associate Judge Kerr,” Mayor Dan O’Neil told The Edmond Sun after an executive session of the City Council.
Synar and Kerr adjudicate all traffic, ordinance and juvenile offenses within the City of Edmond. Synar has served Edmond since 1988 and Kerr was hired in 2001.
O’Neil said Kerr had a 30 percent pay increase in 2006 and Synar had a 5 percent raise that year. Synar’s annual salary from the city will increase to $58,500 a year. Kerr will earn $24,570.
“We’re just trying to make it what we thought was a little more equitable,” O’Neil said. “They both are serving the community at very reasonable per-hour rates.”
