Police: Assault incident not true

EDMOND A woman who claimed to be a victim of an assault earlier this week confessed to Edmond detectives that she made up her story, police said Friday.

The woman originally claimed she was attacked behind a pizza restaurant.

Glynda Chu, spokeswoman for the Edmond Police Department, said based on the woman’s story, police had sought the public’s help in identifying the suspect. Police now want to ease any concerns about a possible assailant still being at large.

“We want to put the public’s mind at ease to know that there was not an attack on a woman at this restaurant and that there is really not a violent suspect at large related to this incident,” Chu said.

On Monday, at 12:08 p.m. police received a call concerning a 22-year-old woman working at the Little Caesar’s, 2500 W. Edmond Road.

The victim told police she was attacked by a man when she went to the trash bin behind the business to take out the trash. The victim said she was knocked to the ground and hit her head, causing her to briefly lose consciousness.

Edmond Police called in a K-9 unit to the scene, but no suspect was spotted, Chu said. The woman also gave police suspect description information. She was transported to an area hospital, treated and released.

Chu said the woman is seeking professional help and will not face any complaints from the Edmond Police Department.
