Norman police recover hand grenades

NORMAN (AP) — The Norman police bomb squad has safely retrieved two hand grenades that a local landlord found while cleaning a rent house.

The landlord placed the grenades in the back of his pickup truck on Sunday and drove them to the police station.

“Not particularly the smartest thing to do — that’s how the bomb squad became involved,” Norman officer David Freudiger said.

The grenades were not detonated but were taken to the police shooting range where they will be held until military officials from Fort Sill retrieve them, Freudiger said.

The grenades were military-issue training grenades that could have been purchased at a military surplus store or gun show, but had been modified to function, Freudiger said.

Officers searched the rent house and interviewed the previous tenant, but said they don’t believe he was involved.

Woman accused in deadly

3-car crash

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma City police say a woman accused of causing a deadly three-car crash on the city’s northeast side will be arrested on complaints of drunken driving and second-degree murder.

Police say 24-year-old Brittanie Bullock was traveling about 80 mph Sunday afternoon when she slammed into a minivan that then flipped and collided with a sport-utility vehicle.

Sgt. Paco Balderrama says a woman in the minivan, 71-year-old Phyllis Murray, died at the scene.

Five other people in the two vehicles were taken to the hospital including Bullock.

Balderrama says the accident occurred as Bullock was leaving the scene of a previous hit-and-run accident involving two vehicles about eight blocks away.

He says Bullock will be booked into jail once she’s released from the hospital.
