Edmond radiologist joins OU Physicians

Dr. Jay Harolds of Edmond has established his medical practice at OU Physicians. Harolds, a radiologist, comes to OU Physicians from Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he practiced for the past 28 years, serving as head of the residency program for 17 years and as medical director for the department of radiology for eight years.

Harolds is board certified in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine. He completed a fellowship in nuclear medicine at Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, Tenn. He completed a residency in diagnostic radiology at Georgetown University. He earned his medical degree from the University at Buffalo Medical School.

He is the president-elect of the American College of Nuclear Physicians and is a fellow of the American College of Radiology and serves on several committees for these organizations. He is past president of the Association of Program Directors in Radiology, the Southwest Chapter of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, the Academic Council of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, the Oklahoma State Radiologic Society and the Central Oklahoma Radiologic Society.

Deaconess helps those facing prostate cancer

More than 2,500 men in Oklahoma will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, exceeding the number of women in our state facing a new breast cancer diagnosis. On Tuesday, Dr. John R. Taylor, a radiation oncologist at Deaconess Hospital, will educate men facing prostate cancer. The group meets at 6 p.m. in the Deaconess Medical Offices-North Lower Level Conference Rooms at 5701 N. Portland.

USTOO meetings provide a forum for medical experts to inform group members about various treatment options, post-treatment expectations and provides men and their spouses an opportunity to ask questions. Meetings are the third Tuesday of each month and wives and partners are encouraged to attend this free program.

Support group helps those struggling with infertility

OU Physicians Reproductive Health has helped establish an infertility support group for couples having difficulty conceiving or who have suffered through miscarriage. The group’s next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday. Call Christy at 226-3761 or 271-8001, ext. 48137, for location information. There is no cost to participants to attend.

Support group participants will be able to share their stories with others experiencing the same challenges in a caring, supportive and understanding environment.

Free breast cancer support group meets next week

A free breast cancer support group meeting is scheduled for noon Thursday at the OU Breast Institute in the OU Physicians Building, 825 N.E. 10th St., Suite 3500. The meeting provides discussion time for participants to share personal experiences or hear from others with similar challenges. Women with breast cancer, survivors and family and friends of breast cancer patients are welcome to attend.

Deaconess Family Care Rose Creek opens

Dedicated, experienced and known for bringing a high level of personal care to every patient, Dr. Dustin R. Baker and Dr. Douglas R. Riddle are establishing their practice at Deaconess Family Care-Rose Creek. Located at North May Avenue and Northwest 164th Street in Oklahoma City, Deaconess Family Care–Rose Creek provides the full scope of family medicine from newborn to geriatric. Baker is board certified in family medicine and is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He completed his residency at Great Plains Family Medicine in Oklahoma City, where he served as chief resident.

Edmond Medical Center hires employees

Edmond Medical Center announces the hiring of Misty Leitch as security officer; Kristina Moellendorf as lab assistant; Angus Smith in Surgery as transporter and Darcie Wallenmeyer as executive assistant in administration.

A medical center for more than 60 years, Edmond Medical Center serves residents of Edmond, northern Oklahoma County and southern Logan County. Integris Health Ranks Top 25

Integris Health’s metro hospitals ranked in the top 25 among health-care organizations that are wired with high technology imaging and patient information systems, for the fourth year in a row. The hospitals were recognized as leaders in the use of PACS — picture archiving and communications systems. Health Imaging and IT, a national health-care and technology publication, reviewed nominations representing more than 600 health-care facilities with a common goal of creating a seamless path for incoming and outgoing patient information. Integris Baptist and Southwest Medical Centers were the only Oklahoma facilities ranked in the top 25.

Jerry Lewis hosts Labor Day telethon for MDA

Legendary entertainer Jerry Lewis will continue his battle against muscular dystrophy this Labor Day weekend on his 43rd Labor Day Telethon to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Originating from Las Vegas, the live show begins at 8 p.m. Aug. 31, and will be shown on some 180 “Love Network” stations nationwide.
