Logan County Democrats Committee opens office

The Logan County Democratic Committee opened its campaign headquarters at noon Thursday in Guthrie. The headquarters is just west of the Blue Grass Festival location. All Democrats are invited to stop by for candidate information at the headquarters at 813 W. Noble. For information on how to volunteer and hours of operation, call Janet Hatcher at 341-3748.

Cancer survivors course scheduled for today in Oklahoma City

Members of the media are invited to cover the 2007 Endometrial Cancer Survivors Course, sponsored by the Gynecological Cancer Foundation’s Elizabeth Gillespie Fund for Life and Gynecologic Cancer Foundation in partnership with the University of Oklahoma Cancer Institute today in Oklahoma City.

The course, which is free and open to all cancer survivors, friends, family members and others who are interested in hearing from some of the nation’s leading experts in endometrial cancer research, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Skirvin Hilton, 1 Park Ave.

Dr. Scott D. McMeekin, deputy director for clinical research at the OU Cancer Institute and associate professor and director of fellowship in gynecological oncology at the OU Health Sciences Center, will deliver the welcome and course overview at 9 a.m.

Daughters of the American Revolution seek new members

The Ebenezer Fletcher chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is sponsoring a mini-workshop on “What is DAR and Can I Join?” Second Vice Regent Pat McFall of Edmond will conduct the mini-workshop at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Good Shepherd Church, 700 N. Air Depot in Midwest City.

The DAR is a nonprofit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization that is dedicated to promoting patriotism, education and American history. Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided American independence is eligible for membership.

The National organization was founded in 1890 with the Oklahoma Society forming in 1908. The Oklahoma Territory and Indian Territory had chapters as early as 1894. Today Oklahoma has 41 chapters statewide with more than 3,000 members. For more information, call Virginia Jimenez at 685-8151.

Democrats feature candidate at monthly meeting

The Edmond Democrats invite residents to its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Downtown Communty Center 28 E. Main St. The speaker this month is Graham Gulh, who is running for the House District 39 seat against Republican Marian Cooksey and Independent Richard Prawdzienski.
