10-23 Police news in brief

The Edmond Sun

Woman arrested for trying to buy prescription drugs under false pretenses

Police arrested an Edmond woman who attempted to buy drugs by false pretenses from a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market.

On Tuesday, Edmond police were dispatched to the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market at 1301 E. Second Street in reference to a false prescription, according to a police report.

When police arrived, a possible suspect was at the store. The pharmacy manager told police an unknown female had left a message on his voice mail regarding a prescription that needed to be filled. The prescription was for Tramadol, a pain reliever.

The pharmacy manager said he became suspiscious because he had recently filled the same prescription for the same person so he called the issuing doctor. The doctor said he did not have a patient with the name given by the manager, and he had not placed any prescriptions for Tramadol.

The doctor faxed a letter to that effect to the pharmacy manager. Police then talked to Jennifer Elizabeth Burgess, 26, who was still seated in her vehicle in the pharmacy drive-thru.

Police asked for her name, and Burgess said the name on the message was fictitious, and that she had used the doctor’s identifying number to call in the prescription for Tramadol.

Police arrested Burgess on a complaint of attempting to obtain a controlled dangerous substance by false pretenses.

Edmond police report drug-related robbery by force

Edmond Police are looking for a suspect who asked to buy drugs, then assaulted the victim before getting away with cash, ID and check cards.

Sunday morning five Edmond officers responded to the 3000 block of Wynn Drive in reference to a robbery that had just occurred, according to a police report.

Police said the victim was approached by a black male in his 20s, about 6 feet tall, who asked if he could buy any illegal drugs. The victim told the suspect he did not sell drugs, at which time the suspect asked for beer.

Police said the victim told the suspect he did not have any beer and the suspect began following him. Then the suspect began attacking him, repeatedly punching him with a closed fist.

The suspect then stole the victim’s wallet and ran away. Police said the wallet contained a Social Security card, a Texas drivers license, $90 in cash and two debit cards.

Police said the victim tried to show them which apartment the suspect went into, but there was no one inside.
