EDMOND Edmond resident wins $25,000 playing Oklahoma Cash 5

Karl Stapp of Edmond is counting his cash and heading to Vegas as the lucky winner of $25,000 playing Oklahoma Cash 5.

Stapp purchased his winning ticket at the Valero at 13636 N. Bryant Ave. in Edmond.

“I usually buy at a different store,” he said. “But I had forgotten to get tickets so I went to Valero because it was close.”

He received his winning numbers through Easy Pick and plans on enjoying his vacation in Las Vegas. With a daughter who is a school teacher, Stapp plays the lottery knowing that a portion of its proceeds benefit Oklahoma education.

More than $297 million has been contributed to education since November 2005 with funds directed to common education, career and technical education and to the higher education capital bond issue through the Oklahoma Education Lottery Trust Fund. The Oklahoma Legislature appropriates the OELTF.

Proceeds are used statewide to supplement existing funds for a variety of important education purposes, including teacher compensation and benefits, early childhood development programs, college scholarships, classroom technology and construction of educational facilities.

Kiwanis hosts Community Foundation director as guest speaker

Nancy Anthony, executive director of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, will be the guest speaker at the Edmond Kiwanis meeting at noon Wednesday. Anthony will talk about “Leaving a Legacy” and the mission of the OCCF.

Anthony joined the Oklahoma City Community Foundation as executive director in 1985 when it had assets of $20 million and one other full-time employee. She has helped direct the growth of the Community Foundation to assets of more than $500 million during 2008. The Community Foundation has 29 full-time employees and makes average annual distributions to the greater Oklahoma City community of $25 million.

Nationally Kiwanis Clubs have established foundations to fund ongoing special projects. The Oklahoma City Kiwanis Club has established a fund with the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. This fund is called the Kiwanis Special Activities Fund Inc. and is administered by the Kiwanis Club of Oklahoma City without charge since 1918, with 100 percent of these contributions devoted to serving the children of the world and Central Oklahoma community.

Edmond Kiwanis Club meets every Wednesday in the Cherokee Room of the UCO Nigh Student Center. Residents are welcome to attend this meeting, which starts at 11:30 a.m. in the Cherokee Room just left of the main cafeteria. Information is available about other Kiwanis youth programs such as Key Clubs in Edmond high schools and at UCO. For more information, call Club Secretary Don Sterne at 216-8436.
