EDMOND — Sheriff’s office releases Halloween weekend sobriety checkpoint stats

Oklahoma County deputies manned a metro Halloween weekend sobriety checkpoint which netted 16 DUI arrests.

The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office conducted a sobriety checkpoint at 3900 S.W. 15th St. in Oklahoma City. It began at 10:30 p.m. Saturday and ended at 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

During the event deputies issued 90 citations, 34 warnings and made a total of 26 arrests which included 16 DUI arrests, five warrant-related arrests, three arrests for driving under suspension and no driver’s license and two “other.”

Deputies impounded 39 vehicles.



Thief pilfers poultry

from Edmond backyard

Someone stole 15 chickens from a backyard chicken coop, police said.

Thursday afternoon, police were dispatched to the 2000 block of Bobwhite Trail in reference to a larceny, according to a report filed by Officer Todd Strader. The victim told police that sometime last Wednesday someone stole the chickens, worth a total of $150.

Police said the victim has a coop in the backyard and had the same chickens for more than a year, and they never leave the fenced-in area. There were no feathers on the ground, indicating that they were not killed by a wild animal, police said. Also, the fence was closed.

The victim told police that she had wanted to get rid of five chickens that were not producing eggs. Her yard maintenance worker directed her to a Hispanic male in his 40s who came and acquired the five chickens on Oct. 26, police said.

No further information was available.



Police investigate

cash theft from business

Edmond Police said they are investigating the theft of cash from a local bait store.

Saturday morning police were dispatched to Brandon’s Bait and Tackle, 253 S. Coltrane Road, in reference to a burglary to a business, according to a report filed by Officer Tim Harwell. A store employee told police that sometime overnight Friday someone entered the business and took cash. Police did not disclose the amount.

Police said someone entered the business through the back door by placing some kind of knife or tool between the door and the door jamb, and then they moved the bolt securing the door. The dead bolt lock was located on top of the door.

An employee told police he did not have the dead bolt locked because he was leaving bait out back for a customer, police said. The thief or thieves entered the business and took a cash register from the counter, along with two money bags. One money bag was green and the other was brown, labeled with “Spencer State Bank,” police said.

Police were awaiting a copy of surveillance video.



Thieves steal petty cash

from business

Someone broke out a door at a laundry service business and stole petty cash, police said.

Saturday morning, police were dispatched to Legacy Cleaners, 805 W. Covell Road, in reference to a burglary, according to a report filed by Officer Trint Trip. Police said Friday night someone broke into the business and stole the petty cash. The amount was not disclosed. It appeared no clothing was missing.

Police said the business owner did not want the crime scene processed.
