Special Olympics Equestrian Competition begins in Stillwater

EDMOND — Special Olympics Oklahoma will sponsor the 10th Annual state-level Equestrian competition at the Payne County Expo Center in Stillwater at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Special Olympics Oklahoma Athletes will compete in eight events: Showmanship, Rail Class, Western Riding, Working Trails, Barrel Race, Figure 8 Stake Race, Pole Bending and Unified Relay Race.

As in any Special Olympics event, there will be an Opening Ceremony. The Horseman’s Association will present the colors and the 140 Special Olympics athletes will recite the Special Olympics Oath, “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”

Lunch will be provided by Pat Lewis and the Stillwater Elks Lodge.

Sponsors for the 10th Annual Special Olympics Oklahoma Equestrian Competition are the Oklahoma Thoroughbred Association, the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association, the Oklahoma Horsemen’s Benevolent Trust and Remington Park.
