Local businesswoman reaches jellybean goal

EDMOND — An Edmond businesswoman reached her goal of $10,000 to buy 10,000 pounds of jellybeans, she said.

Tracy Jackson said this week that she made her goal through the online fundraising website Indiegogo for her company, iCelebrateDiversity.

The company uses special Diversity Jellybeans to teach lessons about bullying and stereotyping to children as well as adults.

“You can’t determine what is on the inside by simply looking at the outside of the Jellybean,” Jackson said.

A red Jellybean might taste like licorice and a black jellybean might taste like coconut. It’s always a surprise with 36 flavor and color combinations.

Jackson said not only are the Diversity Jellybeans used in classrooms but they are also used in boardrooms to teach tolerance and anti-bullying.

“Diversity Jellybeans are used as a training tool to bring awareness to subconscious stereotyping and hidden biases,” Jackson said.

When Jackson’s supplier of Diversity Jellybeans closed shop, she was left with having to place a minimum order of $10,000 for 10,000 pounds of jellybeans from a new distributor.

With a July 9 deadline, Jackson turned to Indiegogo to help her raise the amount she still needed, and her story appeared in The Edmond Sun on July 3.

“My Indiegogo amount raised is $10,005 and my official amount is $13,770,” Jackson said. “Enough to get things done.”

Jackson is glad people opened their hearts and wallets to help her keep spreading this important, yet tasty, sugar-coated message.

Carney is a city of about 649 residents and following the recent tornado outbreak 20 homes were destroyed there and an additional 18 homes in the county were leveled.

Oklahoma National Guard members, who work side-by-side with local responders to aid in recovery efforts during domestic operations such as the May 20 tornado that tore through Oklahoma City and Moore, are given their tasks through the Guard's Joint Operations Center.
The JOC, located in the Guard's Joint Force Headquarters in Oklahoma City, is primarily responsible for the collection, dissemination and tracking of information to increase the situational awareness for leadership as well as the National Guard Bureau, said Lt.
