EDMOND — Members of the local Baha’i community met with U.S. Rep. James Lankford recently to discuss a resolution that condemns the Iranian government for its continued violations of the International Covenants of Human Rights.

Representatives from the Edmond Baha’i community and the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Edmond recently met with Lankford, R-Edmond, to discuss House Resolution 134, which condemns the Iranian government for its continued violations of the International Covenants of Human Rights.

Members of the Baha’i faith have been the subject of continued state-sponsored persecutions for many years including the imprisonment of seven of its leaders three years ago with baseless or no charges.

The meeting was used to provide an update on the condition of the imprisoned Baha’is and also learn more about the status of H. Res. 134 from Lankford.

Recently, Iran also imprisoned a Christian pastor for religious purposes which has also come under fire by many worldwide including the Baha’i International Community who has called for the immediate release of the pastor.
