EDMOND — The Deer Creek School Board  voted on Monday to contract with the Oklahoma State School Board Association to conduct a statewide and nationwide search of qualified candidates for the Deer Creek superintendent position.

In a recent letter to parents, School Board President David Miller said, “Because searches conducted by the OSSBA are extremely thorough, the time frame for this process can last up to several months. Included in this process will be application and qualification reviews, staff and parent forums, interviews and extensive reference checks.”

Miller went on to say with the assistance of the OSSBA, board members are confident that they will be able to identify and hire a very qualified superintendent to serve the district and students with dedication and excellence.

OSSBA works with the National Association of Superintendent Searches with the National School Board Association, said Executive Director of OSSBA Jeff Mills. “We occasionally advertise with the National Association of School Administrators or if we know of candidates in state or out of state, we make the calls to initiate that conversation.”

Last year OSSBA conducted 18 searches and expect to do that many this year, Mills said.

Bill White was named Interim superintendent to assist the district during this transitional time.

“Dr. White will step out of retirement to return to Deer Creek where he served the district as superintendent for nine years,” Miller said. “Dr. White has a wide variety of experiences including personnel director, assistant superintendent, and superintendent in other Oklahoma districts. Dr. White is very familiar with the Deer Creek community, the challenges that lie ahead with growth and construction and the level of academic achievement that we want for all of our students.”

Miller said the Board of Education has the utmost confidence in the current administration and staff.

“They are the primary reason why our district consistently ranks among the very best school districts in Oklahoma, and we know that they will continue to serve our students and community well as we look for a new superintendent.”

Parents having questions as the board moves forward are asked to contact either Miller or any of the other school board members.
