Author relates Ethiopian story at Kiwanis meeting

Special to The Sun

EDMOND — Author Juliann Troi will be the featured speaker at the Edmond Kiwanis Club this Wednesday. Troi will talk about her book, “Where There is No  Comfort — Seven Days in Ethiopia” and share the story of her visit to Angacha, a small village adjacent to the capital of Ethiopia.

Troi was asked to write an article about the work of the nonprofit organization “International Crisis Aid” in Ethiopia and she knew it would be impossible to write the story from the safety and comfort of her office in Edmond. What she didn’t know was how this simple research trip would profoundly affect her life.

Troi lives in Edmond with her husband and two teenage children. In addition to writing, she is president/artisan of Golden Seed Arts and Media Ltd. She graduated from Durant High School and in 1990 completed her bachelor’s degree in education at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Residents are welcome to attend the Edmond Kiwanis meeting, which starts at 11:30 a.m. in the Cherokee Room just left of the main cafeteria in the UCO Nigh Student Center. For more information about Kiwanis programs or attending this meeting, call Club Secretary Don Sterne at 216-8436.
