The Edmond Sun
Cross Timbers Elementary students and teachers, as part of their Spirit Week, got to Thunder Up! for a good cause.
The school’s 2012-13 theme, the “Power of One,” emphasizes working together to accomplish goals through a variety of activities throughout the year, Cross Timbers Principal Cathey Bugg said. The T-shirt design reinforces unity, teamwork, sportsmanship and friendship.
Tuesday morning, students sat in formation with matching shirts — Thunder colors, of course — and created a giant human representation of the Thunder logo on the school playground blacktop.
During the assembly, the students showed their spirit through singing, waiving at the elevated firefighters and chanting “Thunder Up!, Thunder Up!”
By forming this picture the school taught the children that “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” and that by working together they can accomplish great things, Bugg said.
The Edmond Fire Department assisted the school by bringing a ladder truck used to photograph the students from a bird’s eye vantage point. Each student will be able to purchase a picture, Bugg said.
A portion of the sale of the T-shirts and the picture will go to the Thunder Community Foundation.
