EDMOND —
Mayor Charles Lamb and City Councilman Nick Massey made their election bids official Monday by filing for office at the Oklahoma County Election Board.
So far there have not been any opposing candidates to announce a mayoral bid against Lamb or active council members.
In October, Lamb said he plans to delay his retirement in order to continue sharing his institutional knowledge with the City Council.
Lamb is seasoned in city government while in his 16th year at the City Council. He first served on the City Council from 1993-97 before being re-elected to Ward 3 in 2001. He succeeded former Mayor Patrice Douglas on Nov. 14, 2011, after Douglas resigned from her post in order to accept an appointment to the Corporation Commission by Gov. Mary Fallin.
Business and economic development for Edmond is the No. 1 goal of Massey as he hopes voters will elect him to Ward 4, he said. Massey was appointed to serve on the City Council in March after former Councilman David Miller left the position for business purposes. Massey has 35 years of experience in business, finance and economics.
Ward 3 Council appointee Darrell Davis also has announced his candidacy, but did not file Monday.
Davis formally announced his election bid in November with a mission to develop a recreational base to complement residential and business needs in Edmond. The announcement marked his first bid for election.
Davis has managed the Resource Management Division at Tinker Air Force Base, while facilitating hiring, training and rotation of more than 350 contracting personnel supporting the 327th Aircraft Sustainment Wing, 72nd Air Base Wing, and AF Global Logistics Center. He recently was appointed at Tinker as division chief for the Installation Contracting Division.
Filing for municipal elections began Monday and will last through 5 p.m. Wednesday. Primary elections for mayor and City Council are March 5 followed by a general election April 2. Elected candidates take office on the first Monday in May, said Steve Murdock, city attorney. Mayors are elected for two years. Council members serve four-year terms.

City plans to hire downtown consultant

3 miles of Broadway restoration nears completion
Work to restore 3 miles of Broadway from Waterloo to Simpson was near completion Friday, said Mark Sharpton, District 1 county commissioner. Atlas Paving Company began the process of resurfacing the road this week.
“Another improvement on the roadway will be the application of new safety striping,” Sharpton said.
A recent bid letting by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation resulted in Action Supply being the lowest bidder at $27,752.30. The bid will be awarded June 3, Sharpton said. - More Local News Headlines
