EDMOND — Downtown Edmond is “A Sweet Place to Be” any day of the week, but it will be especially sweet from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday when downtown merchants will feature sales and special Valentine-themed merchandise.

“We will have everything for your sweetheart,” said Leah Kessler, Downtown Edmond Business Association manager, including free Cinderella Carriage Rides.

Madeline’s Flower Shop at 1030 S. Broadway will join the other downtown merchants for the day’s activities with their pop-up shop set up alongside the Fashion Boutique in the Karen Moore Studio inside The DownTown Shoppes.

Although Madeline’s recently celebrated its 60th birthday, “This is our third time to pop-up downtown,” said Barbara Bilke, owner of Madeline’s.

“We plan on bringing Valentine candy including cherry flavored heart-shaped suckers, Godiva Belgian chocolates, truffles, chocolate cordial cherry dip with pretzel shaped cinnamon and chocolate flavored cookies,” Bilke said. “For those who prefer flavors other than chocolate we will have Fruit Gems and miniature orange candy slices and chocolate covered Jelly Belly Dips as well as cocktail classics flavored Jelly Bellys,” Bilke said.

Along with candy will be plush bears, cats, monkeys and dogs in all colors and sizes, and of course, flowers.

Fresh flowers can be purchased that day or an order can be placed for a Valentine bouquet to be delivered. Valentine orders placed downtown Saturday will receive a discount, Bilke said.

“Although we will have red roses of all shapes, sizes and prices, we will also have numerous colors of roses including pinks, white and yellow, lavender and orange and a pink striped called Fiesta and a red and white polka dot called Abrakadabra,” Bilke said.

Of course, other flowers will be available also.

Not only can bouquets be in various sizes they are also in various shapes.

“We can make a topiary arrangement of roses,” Bilke said, “with flowers at the base.

With numerous containers to choose from Keepsake containers are also available as well as glitzy sticks and feathers in various colors.

“We try to keep a price range for all different budgets,” Bilke said. “Prices will start at $5 and go up.”

To keep those Valentine bouquets looking fresh, Bilke said to keep the container full of water and change the water every other day.
